Royal Wedding! Middleton Makeup!

The formerly known Kate Middleton, known now officially as Her  Royal Highness Duchess of Cambridge wowed crowds today in an opulent yet sophisticated spectacle of 21st century romance, as she parade through the streets of London in an Alexander McQueen gown (designed by Sarah Burton). Her makeup was flawless, skin sun-kissed as she wore a subtle smokey eye, pink blush and matching lip to create such a radiant natural glow! The bride was rumored to of taken private makeup lessons before the big day, as she 'knows her face'.. a job well done I'd say! The Fairytale wedding ended with a sincere and loving kiss twice, and cheers from the crowds!

"I have been using this Pantene product that is sulfate free. The Body Shop has one that they are going to give to me so I can try it. I don't know what sulfate does to your hair, it just lays it down, but I can tell you my hair has never felt lighter, or shinier ever. So I continue to use this product."

"And a flat iron of course! At night, I wrap my hair and put a scarf on it. I only wash my hair once a week and it stays straight."

Carol's Daughter - Colour Me Beautiful

The natural haircare and beauty line for curly haired sistah's, Carol's Daughter, have recently launched a new beauty campaign which has taken the step to acknowledge and embrace the multiracial nature of beauty. Spokes models Selita Ebanks (African, Jamaican, Irish, Indian) and singers Solange Knowles (African-Americana and French Creole) and Cassie (African-American and Filipino) joined the latest ad campaign and represent the changing of societies multicultural and blended background.

Selita Ebanks spokes to WWD magazine sating that “Carol’s Daughter doesn’t have just one direct demographic. Solange’s hair is a different texture than mine; so is Cassie’s. Our skin and body types are different. Today, people are blended, and I think the three of us are a prime example. Women in my family range from vanilla to the deepest chocolate.”

Though the models glow radiant in their beauty, the ad somewhat lacks the diverse nature in skintone, as it achieved with hair type. Not all mixed race women are of the lighter brown complexion, and they failed to highlight this. Nonetheless it's a step in the right direction!

Contour & Highlighting 101

How to Contour and Highlight:

The main reason for contouring is to give your face that appeared perfect definied, symmetrical look, on a night out or in photo's. This type of makeup application isn't really suitable for an everyday look, if dont in full as you run the risk of looking over done, and dolled up! The main concepts of this beauty artistry is to use a darker shade then your foundation color to make parts of your face recede (contour), while the lighter shades you use will be for highlighting high-points such as your cheekbones and bridge of your nose. Using these gives your face a more 3D effect, and the addition of bronzer and blush gives your cheeks and other areas of your face a healthier glow!

WHAT YOU NEED:

• angled contour brush/ fan brush
• blush brush
• blush
• bronzing powder
• highlight shade (lighter/or bronzer)
• darker blush/ or contour shade (kit)

INSTRUCTIONS:
1)  Lightly dab your angled contour brush in your contour shade (this should be darker then your already applicated foundation shade)

2)Make a fish face and locate under your cheek bones wherever your cheeks are most sucked in, and apply the contour shade. Apply from the front of your ears and bring down to the corners of mouth by your jawline.

3) If you want you can bring them up high to your temples,and up to your forehead to frame your face.

4) Then to contour the nose bring the brush (you made need a smaller blending brush) down by the sides of your nose.

5) Now it time to highlight! You can use the same contour brush, just be sure to clean off any excess powder, and dabb the brush lightly in the highlighting powder.

6) When applying the highlighter make sure it is placed where the light is more likely to reflect of your face. Typically these areas are your cheek bones, bridge of your nose, centre of your forehead and front of your chin. When applying the highlighter make sure is above the place you've contoured to ensure the shadowed effect.

7) Now it's time for the blush! Using your blush brush of choice apply your blush and a bit of bronzer to the apple of your cheeks. Smile really widely to help locate the apples of your cheeks, and bring it towards the ears. Make sure to ensure that the blush is blened well your highlighter above and your contour below.

8) For a finishing touch lightly go over your face with a powder brush, with a small amount of your powder and bronzer to set the look and blend in all areas well.

Eye Spy! Blue Eyeliner!

Have fun in the sun, and make your eyes pop this weekend with some striking blue eye liner. The eye catching makeup look is great for a girls night out, or a lounge in the park. Applying the colour to your waterline and compliment with either a subtle and natural look, or brights such as gold, purple and green to a get a party started!

 

Avoid pastels and cooler shades or blues for darker skin tones, and rather opt for shades of turquoise, electric saphhire, sparkling aqua's and other which look great on brown skin tones! Blend out your waterline with a great blue eyeshadow to give the look some extra kick!
